Did You Know?:
- Heritage Lake spans 101 acres, offering plenty of space to spread out and enjoy the day.
- The lake has a rich history tied to the development of Newark’s water system:
- The original water works in Newark were constructed by a private company around 1888.
- The Village of Newark acquired the system in 1905, which originally relied on springs northwest of the village.
- By 1918, the system was deemed inadequate, prompting the creation of Newark Lake (now Heritage Lake) southwest of Phelps.
- A water treatment facility was built adjacent to the lake and a cast iron supply main was laid to Newark to ensure a reliable water source.
- Heritage Lake is home to a variety of fish species, making it a great spot for anglers of all levels. Keep your eyes (and lines) out for:
- Northern Pike
- Black Crappie
- Perch
- Largemouth Bass
- Smallmouth Bass
- Sunfish
- FLX will bring new amenities, facilities, and services to make Heritage Lake a year-round destination for relaxation and recreation
Whether you’re a seasoned angler or just looking for a relaxing day outdoors, this is the perfect opportunity to enjoy the lake, connect with nature, and maybe even reel in a great catch. Pack a picnic, bring your lawn chairs, and make a day of it. We can’t wait to welcome you to Heritage Lake for a day of fun, fishing, and fresh air.
